
Biopoa, a South Korean biotechnology company led by CEO Sun-hee Cho, announced that it has made its inaugural shipment of 'PoaVac PRRS Live Vaccine' to Mexico, marking the company’s official entry into the Latin American market.
Co-developed with the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA) of South Korea, the vaccine is the world’s first to utilize Synthetic Attenuated Virus Engineering (SAVE), an advanced reverse genetics technology. The vaccine was engineered by recombining two strains of the North American-type Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) virus prevalent in South Korea.
The PoaVac PRRS Live Vaccine leverages precise gene editing to modulate the immunogenic regions of the virus, successfully slowing its replication rate while maximizing its immune-inducing capabilities. Following vaccination, the virus replicates at a significantly reduced speed within the pig's body. This minimizes pathogenicity and allows the animal's immune system sufficient time to respond, leading to a high antibody formation rate.
“Following our entry into Cambodia and Thailand last year, we have expanded our footprint into the Mexican market this year,” said Dr.Sun-hee Cho, CEO of Biopoa. “Our continued expansion into the global market demonstrates that our proprietary technology holds strong competitiveness on the world stage.”
Dr.Cho further noted, “Mexico’s swine population is roughly double that of South Korea, and the market is growing steadily at an annual rate of over 3%, indicating robust demand. We plan to gradually increase our supply to align with local market requirements.”
